9’5″ Test Model

Here's Mikey Detemple testing out his new 9'5" square tail. I'm still doing some fine tuning, but it will be a model soon.

5’8″ Skip Frye Twin Keel

This is my 5'8" Skip Frye fish. This was the first board that I ever ordered from someone else since I started shaping boards.  I got this board in either 95 or 96. It changed my approach on my shaping and surfing.  After the first time I saw Tom Curren's part at Jefferys Bay in "Searching for Tom Curren" I wanted one.  The way that board plained and the speed it got blew my mind.   I stopped by Skip's old shop Harry's in Pacific Beach and I asked him if I could order one.  Once I got it I didn't ride any other board for probably two months.  The next time I saw him he told me that my board was probably the 8th one he'd made at that point in the 90's. It was way before the whole fish craze exploded.  He had only really made those boards for Derek Hynd.  That one Curren was riding at J Bay was actually one of Derek's.   With Skip's encouragement and blessing I began making my own take on that board.

6’6″ Skip Frye Swallow Tail

This board right here is a 6'6 swallow tail by Skip Frye. I got this board probably in 2003 or 2004.  I was lucky enough to have a factory side by side with skip for about 10 years.  I had made it a point to order a board from Skip on my birthday and every christmas for probably about 5-6 years straight.  Some of them just being basic models to others where I'd try to get Skip to do something outside of his box and we'd collaborate on things together.  This board here is a, I think he just calls it the swallow tail.  I don't really think he has a model name other than the swallow tail.  It's an amazing board.  I really enjoy it for when I haven't been in the water much and I want to work on getting my rhythm and timing back.  Brad Gerlach actually borrows this board from me all the time.  He injured his knee probably 4 years ago and I loaned him that board and he ended up borrowing it for 6 months.  Every time he comes we hang out he always want to borrow it and ride it.
